Dogs and Cats

• A Belgian Malinois whose human companion was killed in Afghanistan will now live out her life with the dead soldier's family. Sadness.

Dog Bites

• A loose Jack Russell mix in the UK (Pit Bulls banned) attacked a young girl who was trying to protect her own Spaniel from the dog. The child may require plastic surgery for wounds to her face.
• I wonder if the folks in this article, also from the UK, would feel differently if they read about the Jack Russell Terrier above. They think it's super-duper silly that the postal service has suspended services because of a JRT who gets loose and tries to attack people. It's SO FUNNY when a dog "smaller than a cat" acts like that!!! I'm sure the girl above with tooth marks in her face thought it was funny ha-ha too!

Ha, I bet the folks above think this story out of the UK is super funny too in which a Jack Russell Terrier and a Yorkshire Terrier attacked and harrassed sheep. The JRT was physically hanging off of the sheep. One of the pregnant ewes collapsed. The farmer is now threatening to shoot any dog who harasses her sheep. And the owner of the dogs? They swore at the farmer and didn't seem to care about the damage they were causing. HILARITY!

• An interesting story out of Ohio which is made to sound like a deadly assault against a guide dog, but actually wasn't. It was certainly traumatizing for the blind guardian, as she could not see the dog attacking hers nor would anyone help her. But she was also able to pull a giant Mastiff off of her Lab, and the Lab suffered one small puncture wound. Yes, it could have been worse, and I'm thankful it wasn't.
• But not to downplay these types of stories, a Bull-Mastiff in New Zealand mauled a hearing-aid dog, a Schnauzer, so severely the dog needed to be euthanized.
• A teenager out jogging was passing by another young man walking two dogs, a German Shepherd and a Rottweiler cross. The German Shepherd lunged and bit him, leaving him with a lengthy bite wound.
• An owner of two Boxers was all "Yo, my power is out and so my electric fence don't work, I'm just going to hope my two dogs don't go all toothy on any civvies" and then his two Boxers severely attacked a man and now they will die. Good job!
• A Labrador Retriever escaped his yard and bit a woman several times.
• A German Shepherd cross severely mauled a young boy trying to protect his siblings from the dog.
• A German Shepherd service dog faces euthanasia after she attacked a girl.  I love how the owner of the dog describes the bite: "“jaws involuntarily snapped and one of her teeth caught the little girl’s nose." That must be one massive tooth to cause 100 stitches worth of snagging.
• A loose German Shepherd attacked a miniature Schnauzer. 
• A Belgian Malinois police dog broke free from his k-9 handler and inflicted multiple bite wounds on an innocent woman, including bite wounds to her face and head that required staples to close.
• Home Depot in Canada goes off the deep end, deciding to ban ALL dogs after ONE dog attacked an employee. The dog, a Shih-Tsu, bit the woman in the face, severing part of her nose and requiring a trip to the emergency room. 
• A 7-yr-old Lab/Shepherd/plus fifty other breeds mix attacked a boy, biting him a couple times. The father of the bitten child took him to the pediatrician.
