One of the most violent rodeos, the Calgary Stampede, has killed 6 horses this year and injured several visitors (and one rider, whose horse had a heart attack and fell on her). I was looking for research on the number of deaths caused by horses last week, so good timing. I am not surprised. Horses are big, and the things we tend to do with them are often not on the safe side. Even routine things like yearly vaccines can be pretty scary when you have a 1,000lb individual who emphatically does. not. want. that. shot.
