Celeste hates my home's hardwood floors. Mina loves them.
Since we arrived on Sunday, Celeste spends her days on one of the few rugs I have.
Today, I'm going to start clicker training her to like hardwood floors. Or at least find them not so stressful. This morning, she took her time and got down the hall to one of the spare bedrooms. She got to drink the remains of my cereal bowl as a reward.
I could just put a lot of rugs in (and I will) but I want her to find laminate and hardwood floors to be a neutral substance, something she does not need to panic on or be afraid of.
We had a slick floor dog but the sitch was complicated by bilateral cruciate injuries. She ultimately got over the floors and the injuries but we did a long time with various rugs here and there.
ReplyDeleteMesa loves to run and slide on them...
ReplyDeleteaw, poor baby. hope she gets more comfortable on them.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen fear for the hardwood; our dogs do have traction problems and tend to slide around--hence the clenched nail marks. Good luck with your training.
ReplyDeleteCall Cesar!
ReplyDeleteHe knows how to fix that problem!
LOL
Just jerk her on the leash across the hardwood floor.
That'll learn her good!
Haha when I put laminate down here at first, Tink played "FLOOR IS LAVA" and resisted touching it as long as possible. She finally did get over it though when there was too much laminate for her to avoid.
ReplyDeleteRetrieverman's right - flood her with hardwood! Take her to a DIY store and make her try every hardwood sample in the store!
ReplyDeleteShe'll be fine with your guidance. That and she'll eventually want to get to Mina!
