Three ex-employees of a Memphis animal shelter accused of starving dogs to death have been indicted on animal cruelty charges with possible penalties of 1-6 years in prison.
Numb-nut officials in Brampton, Ontario are trying to kill two Boxer mixes because they might be Pit Bulls. Wa-huh? The dogs belong to a 75-yr-old woman and have never posed a problem to anyone ever. Good job, Ontario, stealing beloved dogs from old ladies!
Good god, people, someone adopt this adorable 5-yr-old Pit Bull. She's celebrating a whole freaking year at the Berkshire Humane Society in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
Four dogs and four cats who - STOP THE PRESSES - have been at this shelter for three months were all shot to death because, hey, THREE MONTHS is far too long and, well, might as well just plug the animals full of bullets. YesBiscuit: To the Animal Control Officer Who Said No - Thank You
Ugh, the story about Daisy makes me cry. We've had long timers - one of our dogs stayed with us for five years - YES, FIVE, half of her life - before finding her forever home. She was the darling of the shelter, but she was so particular about who she liked, she was nearly impossible to place. Another dog spent four years with us before finding a wonderful home.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people would argue that other dogs were killed because we didn't put these two down, but we're a no-kill shelter. We don't kill to make room. Period.
It's heartbreaking to watch and wait for homes for these pooches, but knowing that each dog has a warm place with many volunteers who love them and consider them their favorites (we even get to "spring" them from the shelter for day trips and sleepovers), helps a lot. But not as much as when they finally find that home. And the best part is when they visit us and the family sends us updates and pictures. Then it's all worth it.
Hang in there Daisy - your day will come!
That makes me both sad and happy. Sad that any dog should spend that long in a shelter and happy that a) shelters ARE keeping dogs that long and b) eventually, someone will adopt them!
ReplyDeleteSo long as a dog is healthy and happy, they deserve every chance at a permanent home.
